Excitement and smiles filled the air at local schools this fall when nearly 5000 elementary school students received outfits of new school clothes from Assistance League's Operation School Bell program. Starting in September, school counselors sent us the clothing sizes for each student in need of new clothes. Our members, along with many community volunteers, worked tirelessly to select a new, warm winter coat, a pair of jeans, a hoodie, two shirts, six pairs of underwear and socks and a toothbrush and toothpaste for each student.  All bags of clothing were delivered to the schools by the...

On May 21, 2018, Assistance League of Salt Lake City proudly presented the 2018 Operation School Bell Award to the R. Harold Burton Foundation at the chapter's Annual Meeting and Luncheon, held at the Cottonwood Country Club.  Rick Horne and Lucy Hawes, Burton Foundation Board members, accepted the award for the foundation.  Our chapter is most appreciative of the generous financial support that the Burton Foundation has provided to Operation School Bell for many years. Assistance League of Salt Lake City and The King's English Bookshop are once again co-sponsoring an event to promote children's literacy. In celebration of International Children's Book Week, a bin will be available at the bookshop from April 26 - May 5 for donations of new and gently-used children's books. Donated books will be distributed by Assistance League volunteers to agencies serving children in need who will, in turn, provide these children with their own book.  Please bring one book or several to The King's English Bookshop, 1511 S. 1500 E. in Salt Lake City, on or before May 5th. 
Karin Palle, our 2018 Karen S. Johnson Woman of Distinction honoree, is Executive Director of Utah Women’s Networking Group, which connects members with people, resources, encouragement and inspiration to be the most successful women they can dream to be.  Her association with Westminster College’s Bill & Vieve Gore School of Business and the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program are among Ms Palle’s many accomplishments  which contributed to her being named one of 2016’s “30 Women to Watch” by Utah Business magazine.  
To celebrate National Assistance League's Legacy of Literacy children's book drive, Assistance League of Salt Lake City and The King's English Bookshop co-sponsored a book signing by children's author Bobbie Pyron. Held on February 17 at the bookshop, Pyron read excerpts from her newest book, A Pup Called Trouble​. Assistance League's Book Bank program, which supports children's reading literacy, purchased and will donate 90 of Pyron's signed paperback books to Title I school libraries. February 24th. Legacy of Literacy is an initiative of National Assistance League whose goal is to promote and spread the joy of reading to children in our community. Assistance League of Salt Lake City is collecting books to be distributed to agencies who work with children in need. Among these agencies are: Utah Children/Youth Center, IQRA Academy of Utah, Guadalupe Center,  People’s Health Clinic, Kauri Sue Hamilton Academy (for disabled children). A "Spring Extravaganza" is coming to the Foothill Village Chico's store from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10th when Chico's holds a special event in support of Assistance League. A demonstration of "how to layer" will give event attendees creative ways to expand a wardrobe. Bring in a donation of nice new or gently used clothing and qualify for a chance to win a lovely Chico's necklace.  Donated clothes will be given to Assistance League Thrift Shop.
