With an eye to the future the Book Bank program promotes literacy in various capacities. Volunteers read to preschool children enrolled in Head Start and each child is given a book to take home along with a new toothbrush and toothpaste. Books are provided to children served by other charities such as Ronald McDonald House and Shriner’s Hospital. Public school libraries request and get books to add to their collection.
Extending its reach, Book Bank also partners with corporate literacy programs such as the Ken Garff Road to Success and the Lt. Governor’s Partnering for Service by supplying books for children in need.
To improve the classroom experience for handicapped children, Book Bank not only provides books but also supplies of hearing aid batteries, audio systems, and multi-sensory kits for the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind.
Every year thousands of books find a new home and a special place in the heart of a child because of Book Bank.
