Each year, Assistance League’s approximately 250 members provide over 30,000 volunteer hours towards managing and staffing Assistance League Thrift Store, and conducting our philanthropic programs. These programs impact the community in a variety of ways. Our flagship program, Operation School Bell®, provides new warm winter school clothing to over 5,000 children from low-income families in the greater Salt Lake community. Nearly 12,000 children and adults are served through seven additional programs. Assault Survivor Kits® provide new clothing and personal hygiene items to victims of sexual abuse; Baby Bundles gives newborn layettes to low-income mothers; Book Bank provides literacy support to Head Start children; Brighter Tomorrows distributes vouchers for clothing, shoes and hair care to people returning to work or school who have been referred by social agencies; Operation Healthy Teeth provides acute pediatric dental care to children who have no other means of treatment; and Act III entertains seniors in various care centers and Eye on the Community fills needs not met by our other programs. In addition, our Assisteens® youth auxiliary conducts three service programs: Teens Helping Teens, Helping Hearts and Bunny Baskets.
